Hello everyone, I have a problem that just cropped up. On my Yamaha FG830, I unintentionally dropped my mic stand and mic, which sadly resulted in a 5 to 6″ straight long but severe crack. I can’t really hear any differences from before the accident; it still plays and sounds well. While I don’t currently have the actual photo, I did find a reference photo that closely resembles mine online. Despite the fact that I recently paid $250 with discounts for my brand-new guitar.

Checking for damage on the inside of the guitar would be the first step. I use a 2×4 to trace the lower bout’s design, then I use a band saw to cut out clamping cauls that fit the lower bout’s curvature. I then use cork to line the cauls. I really have quite a few on hand that fit the majority of common shapes. To ensure that the crack is nice and tight, make sure the instrument is properly humidified. To open the crack and let the Titebond message in, reach inside the guitar and push on one side of it. Use diluted Titebond, up to 10% diluted, where the fracture begins to fade out.
I next take two plexiglass cauls and clamp them together so that the two parts of the crack are in the same plane and are flush when side pressure is applied. I apply pressure to the lower bout after installing the lower bout cauls using a long bar or cam clamps. You don’t want to overpower this place. Exactly enough to secure in place. Normal squeeze-out is visible, but you can deal with that afterwards.
Make spruce cross grain cleats and insert them roughly every inch and a half down the interior of the crack after letting it cure overnight. Strong magnets and titebond are excellent tools for this. Once more, allow to dry overnight before cleaning, buffing, etc.
